- John
Winthrop Austin was born in New York City on January 11, 1954. He always
loved that his birthday was 1/11.
- He worked
in radio broadcasting in New York...a perfect path for his beautiful
voice.
- He moved
from New York to Birmingham in 1985.
- John
spoke fluent Russian. He founded the American-Soviet Connection and
served as a translator for a variety of events.
- He hosted
a (great) jazz radio show on WVSU-FM on Wednesday nights during the
early 90s.
- He was
a long-standing member of Unity of Birmingham and was a student of A
Course in Miracles, as well as the teachings of the Far East.
- John
recognized at an early stage the importance of the The Celestine Prophecy.
He distilled the insights into short verses and faxed them to James
Redfield, a friend from Unity. Thus began a relationship that John
cherished...
- He worked
with James and Salle Redfield for 6 years before moving to Detroit to
take a job at Renaissance Unity working with Marianne Williamson in
2002.
- He was
most recently building up his consulting business, and was excited
about many new projects with a variety of clients from across
the country.
- He had
an innate intelligence and remarkable social skill. He easily befriended
people.
- During
the week of his illness (before Thanksgiving week), he knew he was so
close to passing that he had come to a peace with that potential. May
we all be so fortunate.
- John
appears to have made a peaceful transition in his sleep the morning
of November 27.
- His final
voice mail message on his cell phone says, in part: "It has not
escaped me that this is Thanksgiving week, and I truly am very thankful
to be alive...Be thankful."
We
love you John, and we are indeed thankful for all you brought to our lives!
Be
well.
